This Wednesday we had the pleasure of welcoming Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, to our new offices on the Research Park. David Crabb, our Managing Director, and I, Abigail Heaton, a previous Apprentice sat down with Lucy to discuss many topics including: getting people into work, government schemes to raise attention to this and training, our growth during a recession period and challenges faced by businesses.
Lucy Frazer hasn’t always been a politician. She went to University in Cambridge and practised as a barrister before being appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2013. Lucy was elected to be the Member of Parliament for South East Cambridgeshire in May 2015; saying her change in direction was influenced with the desire to make a difference.
David and Lucy shared a common interest in getting new talent into work, we have increased our colleague numbers by 30 in the past 3 years, including 6 apprentices and many more if work experience was included. We all agreed it was important for Government to raise awareness of apprenticeships and industry opportunities to job seekers and college students, and David offered his help in doing so in the future.
I started off at Cambridge Online as Social Media Marketing Apprentice, since then I am now a permanent member of the team as a Marketing Executive. Lucy took the time to understand what it was like for a person finding work for the first time.
Lucy was intrigued in how our business has grown during the recession period, and demonstrated a real empathy for some of our challenges which she already understood from her wide exposure to her constituents.
We were impressed by Lucy’s fresh attitude towards businesses, people and improving our local economy and feel confident that Lucy will help promote such things in government.
We look forward to seeing what comes next from Lucy Frazer
