TRU64/HP-UX

Tru64 Unix was originally developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1993 who were later acquired by Compaq Computer Corporation 1998 and subsequently acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 2002. Tru64 Unix, formerly called Digital Unix, is a mature 64-bit operating system having offered 64-bit capabilities since its inception and is consistently ranked among the best UNIX operating systems for reliability, availability and serviceability. Tru64 Unix is noted in part for its sophisticated clustering capabilities and robust hardware and application fault tolerance.

HP Tru64 Unix features:

  • Mature 64-bit Unix operating system
  • Symmetric multiprocessor (up to 32 CPUs)
  • AdvFS with support for direct I/O, 512TB filesystem and 16TB files
  • NUMA aware operating system
  • High Availability (HA) and Single System Image (SSI) using HP TruCluster Server
  • Very large memory (VLM) support for up to 28Gb

HP has announced commitment to the Tru64 Unix roadmap with updates until at least 2006 and standard support until at least 2011. Tru64 Unix Server and TruCluster technology will be integrated into HP-UX 11i V3 further improving the return on investment on HP Itanium-based Integrity servers.
